We at FREIGHT2FLY are deeply impressed by the voluntary commitment of the Hachenburger Frischlinge. Therefore, we decided to support them in their current project: building a facility that provides overnight accommodation for patients at the Gakoma Health Centre in Rwanda. The three rally cars, HUI, WÄLLER, and ALLEMOL, needed to be transported from Hachenburg in Westerwald via Rotterdam to Cape Town. This was the challenge we took on. The Frischlinge plan to take over the vehicles in South Africa and drive them to the destination as part of the rally.
The Frischlinge were already in the full planning process when FREIGHT2FLY's sea freight department took over the logistics part, which the team from Westerwald admitted had given them the most headaches. Together with our strong international network partners – involving colleagues from IAA (Netherlands) and Ziegler (South Africa) – we were able to develop and implement a detailed shipment plan. The official send-off for the Frischlinge on June 16 at the Hachenburger Brewery was both relaxed and friendly, but also filled with anticipation and positive excitement. We wished the Frischlinge all the best for their mission.
On June 19, a day before the departure of the rally cars, Frischling Bruno visited our office in Koblenz and handed over the Carnet customs document. Ten days later, after loading HUI, WÄLLER, and ALLEMOL into two containers, the Santa Clara departed from Rotterdam. The three cars formed the vanguard for the Frischlinge, who were to start their rally from the port of Cape Town at the end of August.
Some unexpected work and unforeseen situations presented challenges to our sea freight team, which, in the end, were all successfully resolved together. After a few days of waiting in Cape Town, the Frischlinge could finally begin their journey to Kigali. The delays were due to trivial issues. The Frischlinge had about 120 stuffed animals in their luggage as gifts for the children at the hospital. These stuffed animals later incurred a customs fee of approximately €20. This and incorrectly issued papers by the South African customs officers led to the delayed start of the Frischlinge's journey.
On August 30, the mission "Support for the Gakoma Health Centre" could finally begin. The Frischlinge carried with them a large check, essential for the implementation of this special and worthwhile project.
For FREIGHT2FLY, it's an honor – For the Hachenburger Frischlinge, it's a way of life – It's wonderful that such people exist!
